A Tranquil Teen Girl's Room | $100 Room Challenge

I'm moving on from the living room briefly to tackle a quick bedroom update for my daughter.  And another $100 Room Challenge is starting, so perfect timing! You can read all about the challenge, hosted by Erin of Lemons, Lavender, and Laundry here, but basically we will making over a room with only $100! I love this idea!

This will be my second time participating in the $100 Room Challenge. The first time we made over our coat closet area and you can see that here.

My daughter's room is perfect for this challenge because she really just wants to get rid of all the bright colors she picked when she was 9 and have a more subdued and tranquil palette. My little girl is growing up! She is almost 13 and has been scouring Pinterest with me for ideas for what she wants. You can see some of our ideas on my Girl Rooms Pinterest board

For now, here is what we are starting with. When she picked this hot pink, turquoise and orange she loved them so much. Of course one of the first things that must go is the hot pink wall. Thankfully all the other walls are still white!

Now I know, for many people the first thing would be to paint all of the wood furniture.  But this was my furniture from the time I was five until I left home.  I can't bring myself to paint it.  Plus my mom would kill me.

So here's the plan:

1. Paint over the hot pink wall.

2. Get rid of the all the bright accents that I can't change.  Like those turquoise curtains. I don't think there's much I can do to reuse them. I'm hoping she will like some white lace curtains I already have.

3. Paint the bench that I made for her from an old coffee table back before I was blogging.

4. This built in book case also needs a makeover, mostly just styling and combining what is on the shelves on the desk.  She really wants to remove the hutch on the desk for a cleaner look. That also means a few DIY projects for the space above the desk.

5. Makeover this dressing table.  It was my Mom's as a child and we are going to update it so my daughter can get ready there in the mornings.  You can only imagine how badly she wants this since she shares a Jack and Jill bathroom with her three brothers. Those boys are also the reason the door is closed for these pictures!

Now that I'm looking at this picture, I can't believe after all these years we never hung her dresser mirror up.  Yikes! But she just uses it as a floor length mirror since she's short.

6. Update as many current accessories as we can to match the new colors. She's decided on a palette of white, smoky lavender, and grey. And maybe one more subdued color. We tend to go with the design flow around here...

Next Wednesday I will update on our progress!
