Our upstairs hallway landing makeover is done! I added a new console table, lamp, mirror, and art. Want to see how I did it for just $75?

This project was part of the $100 Room Challenge that Erin, of Lemons, Lavender, and Laundry, hosts twice a year. I love participating because it forces me to be even more creatively frugal than I usually try to be. I enjoy figuring out how to DIY something and using what I already have to make something new.

Remember what the upstairs hallway landing looked like at the beginning of the month?

So my goals for this space were to give it a console table in a fun color, a lamp, wall and table decor, and a new rug. Here's how it all turned out:

Console Table

I needed a very budget friendly console table for this project, so I made one! It really wasn't hard at all.

I repurposed an old kitchen upper cabinet into a console table. Upper kitchen cabinets are usually 12" deep and perfect to repurpose as a console table or tv cabinet. You can read all about how I repurposed my old kitchen cabinet here

And I went bold with my color choice and painting technique. I had a love-hate relationship with it during this whole process, but in the end, I love it. I described the process here.

To save money, at first I reused the original knobs from my repurposed kitchen cabinet

Once I was done with the project and so far under budget, I bought three new painted ceramic knobs that seemed to be made for it. I got mine at Hobby Lobby, but there are some beautiful options on Amazon.

Lamp

This lamp was a crazy idea I had while looking through all of the embellished lamp shades from Anthropologie and I fell in love with the Half Moon Tassled Lamp Shade. I thought I could make something similar for my space here. You can read all about how I made the lamp shade here.

I also did a texture and chalk paint treatment to a thrifted lamp base to finish this lamp project off.

Wall and Table Decor

I added a mirror that I already had. It was white so I painted and waxed it since it was going on a white wall. You can read about what I did to make over this mirror here.

I did a little painting to tie all of my colors together. You can see my easy method for painting landscapes here. I was fortunate to find a thrifted frame that fit the painting perfectly. The painting also hides the light switch that is in the middle of this space.

In the middle I just stacked a couple of books and a piece of pottery I already had. A big air plant finished off the stack.

Rug

I wanted a rug to ground the space, as well as cover the 30 year old carpet. I used a hand me down rug that my aunt gave me a while back. Sometimes it pays to say "yes!" when people ask "do you want this?" even when you don't have a spot for it at the moment!
