Bathroom Renovaton | $100 Room Challenge | Weeks 2 & 3

Well week two got away from me a little bit, so I’m combining two weekly updates for our $100 Room Challenge bathroom renovation.  We certainly didn't accomplish as much as I had hoped we would, by we did make progress removing wallpaper.  I put my daughter to work on it and she’s really good at it!

We also removed the shoe molding. We discovered that gray caulk goes all the way around the bathroom. I will still have to cut some of the excess off to make it look better and make the new tile level.
These past couple of weeks I’ve been trying to narrow down my design plan for the bathroom.  I thought I’d share a few inspiration photos that got my ideas flowing. This budget bathroom makeover from a Kelsey of Belle Berry Home, who used to own a sister cabin from the same builder as ours (Hearthstone Homes) is a great one.
And this one, also from Belle Berry Home, but from her new house.
I’d definitely like to incorporate some shelves above the toilet area. Like these shelves we did in one of our boy’s room. In a much smaller scale of course. I’m hoping to dig deep into the wood scrap pile to make this happen.
I had mentioned before I was thinking about painting the bathroom cabinet the same navy from our recent main bathroom renovation.  I’ve decided to not paint the wood tone cabinet in this bathroom though. Instead I want to paint the walls about half way up blue. And do a chair rail to divide the wall, and paint white on top.  So after making all of these decisions, here is what the design is starting to look like.

Design elements shown above:

  1.  Bargain blue and white gingham shower curtain
  2.  Groutable vinyl tile
  3.  Warm wood tones
  4.  Blue towels
  5.  Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace
  6.  Cute towel rack
  7.  Bargain shelf bracket
  8.  Benjamin Moore Bold Blue
So this week we will be working on repairing some drywall issues and then painting. I will definitely be putting my new assistant to work some more!  This bathroom has to stay functioning for as long as possible. When we pull the toilet, we will have to move fast. With four kids, we cannot afford to be without this bathroom for long! Two kids will be spending the weekend away from home next weekend so I think it will be the perfect time to knock out the floor tile.

So nice that your daughter was willing to pitch in and do wallpaper removal duty. I once removed a border (not even an entire wall) and it was awful! Love seeing your inspiration images. This bathroom is going to be beautiful!
