Hallway Makeover on a Budget | $100 Room Challenge

This stair landing hallway is getting a makeover for just $100! Here is my plan to stay on budget:

Here we go again, making over another space on a budget! Since this one is for the $100 Room Challenge, we will be working with a budget of... you guessed it... $100! This time I chose to makeover the landing hallway at the top of our stairs. I'm not sure what it should be called, a landing or a hallway? Either way, this bare space needs some love. Right now it is mostly home to random socks and Lego's that sneak their way out of the bedrooms.
The $100 Room Challenge was created by Erin of Lemons, Lavender, and Laundry and is held twice a year. I love participating in it because it gives me a deadline to finish a project (which I need) and it also pushes me to be more creative to stretch the budget.
You probably remember the Kids' Jack and Jill Bathroom Renovation we did recently for this same challenge. We also did a Coat Closet Organization Makeover. It's amazing how far $100 can be stretched when you have to!

So what will we do in this budget stair landing hallway makeover? First of all, here is what we are starting with:

Befores

This may very well be the most boring wall ever. The most interesting thing about it is the light switches. They are going to be in my way and are going to require some creativity to work around.
What this space really has going for it is the timber frame beams and wood ceiling. I have to figure out how to photograph this whole space better for future pictures.

So here is what I would really like to accomplish for this hallway makeover. By the way, I told Mike he is off duty for this project. I'm going to do this one on my own.

The Plan

Walls: Thankfully the walls have a fairly new coat of Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore that is still in good shape. There is definitely a need for decor on that giant white wall though.

Console Table: I have an idea for a DIY console cabinet made from our old kitchen cabinets that has been churning in my brain for months now. I'm so excited to actually get to this project! I'm going for major impact here with some bold color.

Table Decor: I'd love to add a lamp. I love the look of two lamps on a console table, but this one is not going to have room for two.  At least I don't think it will. After that, I'll have to see what I can find around the house or what the budget allows for to finish off the table decor.

Floor: That is well over 30 year old carpet, and we aren't ready to replace it yet. I have several rugs and runners on hand that I have picked up whenever I find one for a good price, so I'll decide which one will fit best once I have the console table done.

Keep Up With All of the Updates for This Project

I think that's about it!

I have to chime in with the others.. the beams and woodwork is gorgeous! I'm sure the touches you're adding will only enhance the natural wood
