We have been down in the trenches with more careful demolition and the underlying building work that has to take place. The shower cavity was not square when we removed the original shower unit, so Mike has been working to rebuild the walls where needed and the ceiling.

We continued removing the moldings. And we also got started removing the existing metal corners under the drywall around the shower.

The ones above the shower need to be replaced because they are rusty. The ones on the sides of the shower needed to come out for tile work.

We also removed the supports for the old exhaust fan. This was way more work than anticipated because this house is built like a fortress. And then added new flex duct for a new fan/light combo that will go in the shower instead of on the outer wall.

We also got the mirror off in one piece thanks to the boys extra hands and muscle. I’m having some pretty bad shoulder issues and they are really limiting what I can do overhead.

Surprise! The original wallpaper was behind the mirror! There are also all of these blobs of black glue. All of this has to be removed and the wall repaired now.

I also did a lot of scouting for tile for the shower and floor this week. I love these large format tiles for the shower, but we just aren’t sure yet if that’s what we want. We have to decide soon though!

I'll be updating on our progress each week for this eight week challenge! As always, thanks for stopping by and checking out our projects!
